Ann Sheridan wrote Dogs Get Cancer, Too to share what she learned from her pet dog Bimbo when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1996, mere months after Bimbo’s lymphoma diagnosis. Ann looked to Bimbo as her model on how to navigate cancer and chemotherapy.
Most young children do not understand the word cancer. When confronted with cancer, children may sense the fears of their siblings, parents, or grandparents. They might even feel guilty for causing their families to be upset.
Dogs Get Cancer,Too enables children to identify with Bimbo and encourages them to express their feelings while reassuring them that they are not alone. We hope that by reading Dogs Get Cancer, Too , children will learn to discuss their fears while teaching them that cancer can sometimes have a positive side.
Ann resides in New Jersey. She has contributed stories to:
Chicken Soup for the Woman Golfer’s Soul (2007)
Chicken Soup for the Soul:What I Learned from the Dog (2009)
Chicken Soup for the Soul:True Love (2009)
Chicken Soup for the Soul:Christmas Magic (2010)
Chicken Soup for the Soul:The Magic of Mothers and Daughters (March, 2012)
